03/17/2021 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM ET

Description

About the Event

Interested in improving soil health management on your farm and/or in applying for organic certification, but find the record-keeping component daunting? You’re not alone! Join this workshop to hear from farmers who keep soil health management records - learn from their challenges and successes and how the information collected helps them make smarter decisions for their farm. Once you have the right data collection program in place and get into the habit of collecting this information, you’ll find there are numerous benefits to reap!

This webinar is part of the 3P Soil School and has been funded by the Million Acre Challenge.

About the Speakers

Carrie Vaughn is the vegetable production manager at Clagett Farm where she has run field operations, farmworker training, and customer engagement for over 20 years. Carrie enrolled Clagett Farm in the Soil Health Benchmark Study via the Million Acre Challenge and is gracious enough to share her hard-earned insights on how to practically and successfully approach soil health record-keeping on an active and busy farm.

Mike Krug is the co-owner and co-operator of Fullers Overlook Farm, a diversified vegetable, herb, cut flower, and pastured livestock farm located in PA. Mike enrolled Fullers Overlook Farm in the Soil Health Benchmark Study via Pasa and has the reputation for turning in really thorough records in a timely fashion so we know he'll have great tips to share with us too!

Lisa Garfield is the Million Acre Challenge Manager for Future Harvest, a soil scientist, and former vegetable farmer. She runs the Maryland portion of the Soil Health Benchmarking Study, conducted in collaboration with Pasa, and recently developed a Soil Health Management Plan soon to be shared with farmers in the Chesapeake region.

The Soil Health Benchmark Study began in 2016, spearheaded by Pasa Sustainable Agriculture. In 2019, Pasa partnered with Future Harvest and the Million Acre Challenge to expand the study to farmers in Maryland.
